Dawn & Hawkes / Mary Walker / Mando Saenz

It's been an encouraging first year for Dawn and Hawkes. After a happenstance encounter, songwriters Miranda Dawn and Chris Hawkes joined together to multiply their talents and formed a male/female fronted band touring the country and sharing songs, shows, and everything in-between. Dawn and Hawkes first appeared in front of a large audience at the Kerrville Folk Festival, where Dawn was awarded as a finalist in the New Folk competition for emerging songwriters. By June, they had recorded and released a self-produced EP, Golden Heart, featuring signature harmonies and an indie-folk sound influenced by Americana, country-rock, and classic Beatlesque-pop.

The debut album has earned the respect and admiration of songwriters such as, Jimmy Lafave, Glen Hansard, Josh Weathers, Bill Chambers, Kacy Crowley, and Charlie Mars, who the duo co-wrote with for their upcoming full-length release.

Old Settlers' Park and Recreation Center

On May 22, 2013, the City of McKinney sponsored an open Pickleball Tournament at the Old Settler's Recreation Center that turned out to be totally unorganized. The courts were not prepared ahead of time and the tournament brackets had to be completed by an outside player instead of already being completed by the sponsor. The wait time between matches was at times over two hours. My group from Denton arrived at the Tournament at 8:30 AM as instructed by the sponsor for registration. My first match wasn't until 2:00 PM and at 7:10 PM the tournament was finally into the ...
