Description

Exhibit features a stunning one-to-five model of the Ten Thousand Springs Pavilion, the classic pavilion found within the Imperial Garden in the Forbidden City in Beijing. The model is on loan from the Smithsonian Institution. Hand-carved from red sandalwood and measuring nine feet tall, the model is an outstanding example of traditional Chinese carving. The exhibition also features photographs and text panels, in English and Chinese, with information about the Imperial Garden and the construction of the model. Patrons are invited to view the assembly of the 3,000 piece model from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 30 and July 1. A reception and Family Funday celebrating the exhibit is scheduled from 2-5 p.m. on July 12.
