Jaume Plensa: The Making of Sho
Next date:
December 6
Start date: Friday, October 30, 2009
Event is ongoing: Until Sunday, February 21, 2010
Jaume Plensa (b. 1955) is among the most innovative artistic minds in Spain today. He is known for his monumental representations of the human form and for light sculptures that incorporate everything from trees to letters to shoes and elicit viewer interaction and participation. At the core of his work, however, is his recognizable commitment to careful and meticulous construction, making his sculptures not only of the highest quality but characteristically clean and solid. This fastidious engineering is especially evident in Sho, his 2007 sculpture recently acquired by the Meadows Museum. This exhibition will feature a number of photographs from Plensa’s studio depicting Sho in various stages of production while explaining the creative and construction process in greater detail. It also will highlight the installation of Sho at other venues before it arrived at its final destination in the center of the Meadows Museum’s new plaza and sculpture garden.
