The University of Texas at Dallas is pleased to announce an exhibition by Florence Wairagu, “Consumption Function,” running Jan. 22 through Feb. 20 in the Mezzanine Gallery of the Visual Arts Building.
This photography exhibit explores concepts related to economics. Wairagu says, “The consumption function is a mathematical formula laid out by famed economist John Maynard Keynes. The formula was designed to show the relationship between real disposable income and consumer spending.”
Her photographs document various aspects of everyday life in the United States, while alluding to the tension between unbridled consumerism and spending constraints introduced during the current recession.
A native of Kenya, Wairagu received her master’s degree in Arts and Technology from the UT Dallas School of Arts and Humanities in 2009.
