Event is ongoing: Until Sunday, April 29, 2007
Gail Hillow Watkins creates mixed media works using comic strips, decorative motifs, pigments, and various mediums. By sanding and distressing the surfaces to expose strata of printed matter, her pieces refer to layers of history and personal experience. Her creativity reflects a keen awareness of art history and the influences of Islamic art, Minimalism, Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Renaissance frescoes, Egyptian tomb paintings, and religious icons are evident in her work.
