Laura Jennings: Backyard Mythomania

Laura Jennings is reconstructing her internal backyard in her artwork. She metaphorically wanders around with her little red wagon, loading up toys, tools, symbols, music, books, places, and people. Some are beautiful things like Vicks vapor rub jars and her grandmother�s buttons, others are broken things like radios and refugees; some have been unattainable to her like tree-houses, ping-pong tables, a restful night�s sleep, and reconciliation.

Jennings paints to assert her will; to claim power over her past experience of abandonment and to fulfill desires and right wrongs. She repairs, renews and reinvents with fantastical colors and gravity-defying placements. Through her work, she can do the impossible.
