Steve Wiman has internalized his mother's extreme thrift born of Depression-era deprivation and combined it with his urge to create. Out of this combination of urges has come the artwork he has made for the past twenty years. His found object assemblages are characterized by a reverence for the materials. Wiman uses mundane or insignificant objects with little or no manipulation, using their own textures, colors and patinas to make subtle and strangely beautiful works.
