Artist statement: "I feel that the use of strong values and clean colors create the most dynamic and visually pleasing paintings. My inspiration comes from the challenge of capturing people, animals, and even buildings with dramatic lighting and unexpected colors. If there is a story or activity in the subject, I try to preserve that instant and make a memory that can be re-lived by the viewer. My wish is to capture that fleeting moment when all conditions are at their optimal beauty."

Marty (Martha) Witten Johnson was born in Fort Worth and spent her early years living in Monterrey, Mexico with her family. Later she moved to Ellis county, TX where her favorite pastimes were fishing and riding her grandfather's horses. After graduating from UNT, she went on to earn her doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Mo. at Columbia. Years passed and Marty took an art class to find a good instructor for her talented daughter. She continues to paint fifteen years later and is proud to learn that her grandmother was also a watercolorist.

Marty competes in local and national shows and is a signature member of the Society of Watercolor Artists. Her art has appeared on the cover of the Journal of Veterinary Medicine. Most recently she focuses on Texas themed art and finds inspiration in the family ranch which has always been central in her life. Her love of animals and appreciation of the natural beauty of Texas finds its way into many of her subjects. She is a member of the Texas Coalition of Artists and is represented by Adobe Western Art Gallery in Fort Worth, Texas.
