This class is for beginners and experienced students interested in the human form as a basis for artistic expression and who want to move beyond representational or literalistic figure sketches. Initially, students will work from a live model as a means to illuminate certain fundamental ideas of sculpture such as form, volume, gesture, balance, weight, surface and structure. Students will make a head and a figure from observation. Students will then depart from the model, building upon the information within their sculpted head and figure. Additional sculptures will be generated using various reduction processes, such as reducing the head in terms of geometry or reducing the figure in terms of gesture and balance. In this class students will develop ideas of how to work within the world of abstraction. $195.00 for members and $225.00 for non-members.
