Description
Jennifer Chenoweth and Todd Campbell, a couple, are inspired by each other's work and often collaborate artistically. In this work they take their mutual interest in iteration to the next level by passing a shape back and forth in a sort of exquisite corpse game. The work shows the evolutions of a shape through multiple processes, iterations, sizes and materials.
The dynamic shapes originated as tiny clay models that had particular qualities that transfer with each iteration. Shapes are used as stamps or brands on the surface of paintings, and are enlarged, and rendered on panels with different monochromatic backgrounds. Some shapes were then forged in steel and powder coated to produce sculptures. By making icons out of what originated as quick gestures, we make light of what is hard, and make laborious what is easy.
