Description

Also in the MFA Project Room, "Textual Dynamite" featuring new work by Simeen Ishaque.

MFA leaps into the political fray with artists unafraid to voice bold partisan opinions."Empire Burlesque" invokes the tiltillating and sensationalist atmosphere of political theater. The work of Eddy Rawlinson issues a harsh indicment on human folly and the dark impulses that incite war and violence. Austin artist Deborah Roberts challenges the conventional responses toward African Americans with characters and situations that inspire a complexity of reactions. These artists seek to subvert our opinions and reshape our perceptions by engaging us in a radical and provocative dialogue.

In the MFA Project Room: "Textual Dynamite" by Simeen Ishaque fashions Urdu (Ms. Ishaque's native language of Pakistan) verses written by Pakistani and Muslim poets into three dimensional forms. Whether they are deciphered in their literal meaning or seen as flowing pattern their juxtaposition creates a mystic enviornment meant to convey societal ideals and inspire change.
