Throughout history, the objects made by Native American women have formed the basis for the iconic image of the American Indian. With everyday objects such as shoes and water containers, these craftswomen showcase their artistry and immense skill.

Daughters of the Earth: Icons of Native American Women will explore how the objects made by Native American women have created the traditional image of the American Indian. The exhibit will explore five iconic products of Native American women including: beadwork, pottery, basketry, rugs, and clothing.

The majority of the items featured in the exhibit will be on loan from The Museum of the Red River, located in Idabel, Oklahoma, which houses one of the most comprehensive and important collections of Native American artifacts in the nation. Daughters of the Earth will feature some of the finest examples of Native pottery, baskets, and beadwork from these often overlooked artisans.
