Description
Originally built in 1886 as the site for the first "Dallas State Fair and Exposition," Fair Park has developed over the past 120 years into a year-round treasure. Still the host for the annual State Fair of Texas, the park is also home to a half dozen permanent museums, major music and theatrical venues, the Cotton Bowl, exhibition buildings, and gardens.
Fair Park's history as the site for legendary sporting events, cultural activities, and military encampments is a colorful and fascinating one. But its future promises to be even brighter, thanks to dramatic improvements proposed under a new Master Plan.
The Dallas Historical Society's new exhibit, "Fair Park-Our Park" recalls the past while offering hints of the future.
Information from the venue.

I Can recall, the many years of going to the Texas State Fair at Fair Park, For many years and for many reasons, many have been a lof of fun, some boring....while the fair may date back to the late 1880s, it was home of the first sporting events that came and went, one event was not allowed, which was the great boxing match in the 1890s.. brought on by promoter Dan Sturat of Dallas,Then in 1936 Sally Rand came of an airplane at Love Feild, with a big pink ball, hidding her nude body all in wrap, to meet boyfreind George Raft,Hollywoods gangster star of the age to then attend the Fair, then along came Rock.... Hudson to do Camelot , From then on it has been cars, cars and more cars....say where did the Whole Foods organic section go........ I cant stomach another hot dog,...... meanwhile some things change, for better or worse, oh well the Texas State Fair 2008, until then Alexander Troup, T.S.F Historian.
