Description
Los Barrios: The Impact of the Mexican-American Barrios in Dallas, 1907-1970, shows the importance of education, religion, music, sports and work ethic to Mexican-Americans in Dallas during the era of barrios (neighborhoods in Spanish).
The barrios highlighted in this exhibit are: Little Mexico, El Pozo (the hole), La Estrella (the star), Ledbetter/Eagle Ford and Exall Park. It also pays tribute to musica del barrio and the local Mexican-American musicians that formed bands and were part of the Tejano music movement from the 1950s and 1960s.

THIS IS REALLY A GREAT SHOW, I grew up or had to go to the folks place of work, as a kid behind Little Mexico, which was behind the Mirramar Museum on Cedar Springs, back in the 1960s and it was the last decade you could see that kind of community that came down around the 1970s, wipping away a way of life that came to peak around the late 1950s. that is quite a few decades..... little Mexico was a neat Barrio, some called it a slum, mi famillia communita and so that was a peice of old Ethnic Dallas... a must see at the State Fair, until then Alexander Troup, Hispanic Historian.
