Molas of the Kuna People of Panama
Start date: Saturday, November 1, 2008
Event is ongoing: Until Saturday, February 14, 2009
In the Kuna people of Panama's native language, "mola" means "shirt" or "clothing". The mola originated with the tradition of Kuna women painting their bodies with geometrical designs, using available natural colors; in later years these same designs were woven in cotton, and later still, sewn using cloth bought from the European settlers of Panamá. The Molas exhibit will be on display in the LCC Multipurpose Room as part of the City of Dallas’ Quiltmania II.
