Diane Sikes / The Ghost Town Arts Collective
Start date: Saturday, February 7, 2009
Event is ongoing: Until Sunday, March 1, 2009
500X Gallery is pleased to present Diane Sikes' work in Looking Backwards. Sikes' recasts found objects to illustrate the transitory nature of memory, thought, and time. The objects are marked, scarred, and imperfect with inscrutable elements. Sikes' work is the progression of forms and materials that reference an internal journey.
UPSTAIRS GALLERY Traveling Show from (No)Where, a group exhibition by The Ghost Town Arts Collective
The Ghost Town Arts Collective, an arts co-op based in Sherman/Denison TX, presents Traveling Show from (No)Where, a collection of work by their members in all media. This exhibit represents individual efforts at self-location, meaning-making, sense-making, and connection-making in an increasingly disconnected world. Yet, like a dusty spider web in a derelict room, there are tenuous connections that reveal a shared experience of life in (No)Where.
PROJECT ROOM Bear Suits and Rooster Parachutes, a video piece by Tanya and Brian Spolans
Bear Suits and Rooster Parachutes is a video created by husband and wife team Brian Spolans and Tanya Eakins Spolans. Using drawings and handmade sets they tell the story of the attempted destruction of mankind. Relating politics, humor, and relationships together they create a visually stunning and personal narrative.
