“Great Trinity Forest and the Trinity River”

Start date: Saturday, April 4, 2009
Event is ongoing: Until Saturday, May 2, 2009

Sun to Moon Gallery, recently relocated next to the Trinity River in the Design District, and three fine art photographers have once again joined creative forces to present a stunning exhibit of photographs taken in and along the Great Trinity Forest and the Trinity River. In addition to presenting their individual artistic expressions, photographers Dan Burkholder, Scot Miller and Jill Skupin Burkholder have a common goal of helping to create an awareness and understanding of the tremendous, underappreciated natural asset that we have in the Great Trinity Forest and the Trinity River.

From Dan Burkholder’s vivid digitally captured images utilizing a new technique called High Dynamic Range (HDR), to Scot Miller’s stunning detail studies with film and a medium format camera, to Jill Skupin Burkholder’s hand-crafted bromoil prints overlaid with digitally applied color pigments as well as one-of-a-kind magical prints using the encaustic method; the wide range of subject matter and artistic expression serve to illustrate differing artistic views of Great Trinity Forest and the Trinity River and also show a wide variety of photographic printing techniques.

Each of the photographers and Sun to Moon Gallery are donating a percentage of sales from “Great Trinity Forest and the Trinity River” to Groundwork Dallas, a local nonprofit dedicated to promoting environmental, economic and social well-being in the Great Trinity Forest and surrounding neighborhoods, and to the non-profit fund of the Dallas Urban Forest Advisory Committee. The Committee’s goals are to advise city officials on best management practices for tree and forest related issues; educate citizens on the benefits of trees; conserve Dallas’ trees and forests; and re-shade Dallas by encouraging tree plantings.
