Bill Holston, says:

What a fantastic film. Okay, I'm a typical American, in this way at least, I have little fascination for the British Royal Family. It would have been a complete joke, however if Helen Mirren had not won best Actress for this terrific portrayal of Queen Elizabeth. One begins to get a hint at the personal cost for being the public representation of the Royalty, as they cope with the disintegration of the marriage of Diana and Charles. She seems utterly confused by how to keep private grief at the same time as the vast outpouring of public affection for the dead Diana.

Helen Mirren is HM Queen Elizabeth. Michael Sheen is splendid as Tony Blair, showing us a glimpse of the affection and admiration he has for the The Queen, despite his liberal politics. James Cromwell displays Prince Philip as someone just in for a good time on a hunt, around a fire, and wonders what all the fuss is about.

Please see this film. bill gives it 5 stars.

sweettalk, says:

This film certainly delivered more than I expected. Not only are we permitted an imagined inside look into the private aftermath of Diana's death; Helen Mirren brilliantly portrays a stoic monarch's inner emotional world with humor, disdain, pride, contempt, loss, grief, self-doubt, and even jealousy. Above all, she shows us a woman who steadfastly remembers what is "her" government even if her country has forgotten.
