Dada Done?
First Trees, now this. The taxman cometh to Club Dada.
DEEP ELLUM Financial woes have been rumored at Club Dada in Deep Ellum for some time. Bands groused that they hadn't been paid and then their band booker made an early exodus. Now, the signs on Dada's door read "WARNING: This property has been seized for non-payment of taxes" and a sarcastic "Merry Christmas from the TABC. We should be back tomorrow! Sorry for the inconvenience, Dada."
Made Fresh Daily left a scrawled "we're sorry, not our fault" note to their fans taped over the official State of Texas notices. The band was scheduled to play on Wednesday, but as of Thursday night, the club was still dark.
Hopefully the promised tomorrow, when the Dada's doors reopen, isn't a long time in coming. It is/was a great bar, or rather three. The main bar, the Far Bar, and the outdoor patio were cool to hang out on, especially on hot summer nights. The music was good; singer/songwriters and cover bands had regular gigs, along with some of the best talent in DFW.
Potentially losing Trees is hard enough on Elm Street. Losing Dada as well? Now that's heart-breaking.
Dada was our "Venue du jour" yesterday. We hope this isn't the beginning of a "Texas Gigs curse."
