Dallas Music Partners Host the ‘No Music Music Conference’ at The Granada Theater
Learnin' a thing or three.
Dallas Music Partners' at The Granada
Honestly? I awoke on Sunday morning with a slight twinge of dread. I mean I usually reserve Sundays for my sofa and my Tivo, but yesterday had other things in store for yours truly.
I packed up my webcasting gear and headed over to the Granada Theater for the No Music Music Conference thinking that I'd pretty much rather do anything other than listen to the advice of doctors and lawyers and accountants for most of the afternoon. But I, if you can even believe it, was wrong.
Jayson Bales is not only a regularly giggin' musician, he's also a businessman with a full-time real job, as well as a husband and a father. Therefore it amazed me that he also managed to make time to form the Dallas Music Partners. The DMP group formed just a mere few weeks ago, and Jayson managed to put together and pull-off the first conference in that short amount of time. Jayson, along with the help of Kate Mackley and several others, invited several professional folks from the world of law, medicine and public accounting to donate their Sunday afternoon in order to advise any and everyone in the music industry who wanted to join us at The Granada Theater. Man...that was a really long sentence. But I digress...
The entire conference was most interesting, informative and actually pretty darn entertaining. It was also pretty well attended considering the short amount of time it took from inception to the first event.
The following folks deserve a big ol' thanks for donating their time and knowledge: Dr. Glen and Dr. Ana Silver, Dr. Martin Molina, Craig Crafton (law) , Charles McGarry (law), Robert Jenkins (law), Rob Banes CPA, Johnny Line CPA, Gene Surall CPA, Mike Schoder, Kate Mackley, Harder Beat Magazine, Olga Arseniev, Beanstock Festival, Pleasantry Lane Studio, Songwriters' Food Bank, Sindinero Productions, Elizabeth Eshelman, Lisa Enicott, Steve Duncan, Travis Hopper, I Love Math and CD World.
I, for one, walked away yesterday with a lot of helpful information that I can, not only use in my own business (and personal) dealings, but that I can also pass along to others in the music biz.
You can listen to the law panel here.
You can listen to the doc-talk here.
My computer froze in the middle of the CPA panel and I lost the audio...which stinks because they had some great information to share. However, one of the guys offered to write something up for TexasGigs.com to provide information for musicians, artists, club owners, et al.
If I can leave you with one piece of advice for today...next event is not-to-miss. Details coming soon...

Kate Mackley, says:
Thanks to everyone who volunteered and came out, despite the time change and the early (?!) Sunday morning time. Next DMP conference, we should try to have this at a more musician-friendly hour.
Huge kudos to Jayson, who put his bum on the line and made sure that we toed it in order to get the conference done, before April 15th, and just after SxSW. And thanks to you, Cindy, for recording this so all the good info can be heard again.
