Vote in the Dallas Mavericks Playoff Song Contest

Which band's song should become the Mavericks' official playoff song?

See the results without voting »

TexasGigs has partnered with the Dallas Mavericks, as well as Quick and 106.1 Kiss-FM, to bring you the first-ever competition to find the Mavericks' official playoff song.

Each of the nineteen entrants submitted a 90-second song. (There were actually 21 entrants, but a couple did not meet the entry requirements.)

From now until April 14, you can come to this page to listen to and, more importantly, to vote for your favorite song. You can vote once per day.

You can hear any of the individual songs by clicking the links in the poll to the right, or you can listen to a streaming radio station of the songs by clicking here.

Reader votes will be averaged in with the votes of a panel of celebrity judges to determine the winner, whose song will be used as the Mavs' official playoff song.

The panel of celebrity judges includes Mark Cuban, Hunter Hauk of Quick, Billy the Kidd of Kiss-FM, and, well, me (although my celebrity status is limited to my appearances in vintage Mavs gear at home games).

“The playoffs are right around the corner, and we need ALL Mavs fans to get out there and place their votes for the song they think will pump up our team the most during this playoff run,” said Mavs owner Mark Cuban. “The response from local bands has created an amazing array of tunes that covers multiple genres, which will make it fun for fans to listen and place their votes.”

The winning band will get tickets to a game, and may even get the opportunity to perform their song at the AAC. All nineteen songs will also be distributed on a CD at the first home playoff game.

You can find all the rules, regs and legalese here.

Bands entering the contest include:

3 Alarm, Ben Zephyr, Dirty Red, Down South All-Stars, The Feds, FruitCake-SuperBeing, Honchie, Jointmethod, Lazer, Memories Past, Olospo, The Paul Byrd Band, P.P.T., Rivethead, Rubba Rode, The Scott McCurry Band, Soultree, South City, and Spacemann.

I'm unbelievably excited about this as a fan, a musician and as a TexasGigger -- I was named "Most Likely to Be the Only Mavs Fan in Dallas" in my high school yearbook during the time when the Mavs were terrible. Now we're working with these amazing local bands to create the Mavs' official playoff theme. And I'm certainly no longer alone as an MFFL. Now, we need you to vote to make sure that we have the best song possible.

Click here to listen to a streaming radio station of all the contest entries.

The Dallas Observer is boycotting this contest as a protest that Dirk Nowitzki was found ineligible to contribute his own song to his own team's playoff run. We believe Dirk's employment with the Mavs is totally inconsequential and irrelevant; what's more, we will be voicing loud complaints for the next few months. In all caps.

Mike Orren, says:

We've gotten some questions about how the celebrity voting interacts with the fan voting. Lemme 'splain.

The fan voting counts for 49% of the vote. Each of the celebrity judges counts for 12.75% of the vote. Those judges are voting independently.

And no, this ain't the electoral college. So if a band "wins" the popular vote, it doesn't mean that they get all of the popular votes-- just the percentage that they have once voting is closed.

So, if the total voting is 100%, a band with 30% of the popular vote and one celebrity vote has 27.45% of the total vote.

While there will be only one official "winner," it should be noted that all the bands will benefit from the compilation CD being handed out at a playoff game. And, some already seem to be getting some nice radio play too.

Also, let's remember that this is a marathon, not a sprint. Voting doesn't close until April 14, and you can vote once a day -- Finally a chance to say "vote early and often," with a straight face.

Mike Orren, says:

I'd like to address omething alluded to above, and discussed on some message boards:

Hosting a contest poll is an imperfect science, even under the best circumstances. There are basically three choices:

  1. Let anyone vote anytime, as many times as they like.
  2. Require registration to vote.
  3. Voting by IP address.

We don't do #1 because the vote becomes a silly exercise in hitting refresh a gazillion times.

We don't do #2 for a couple of reasons. One is that it depresses response. The other is that we fervently believe that we shouldn't force anyone to register unless they, individually, get a benefit from registration. We don't think voting in a poll meets that standard.

So we do #3. The weakness in that is that in some office environments, ironically the more sophisticated networks, the network reads as a single IP and prevents multiple computers from voting. However, this is the exception rather than the rule. And as a necessary evil, it beats the two alternatives above.

A few notes for folks who find themselves in the situation of being unable to vote at a given time because their office is on a single IP address:

  • Remember that you can vote every day through April 14.
  • If you can't vote in the morning, try in the late afternoon and vice versa.
  • Go to a place with free Wi-Fi, like perhaps our advertiser White Rock Coffee: http://www.texasgigs.com/places/white.... You should be able to vote there.
  • If you can vote at home, do so.
  • Remember that fans of all bands have similar issues, so the playing field is level.

Give me a shout if you have trouble voting and we'll do what we can to help.

Thanks!

Dear asthma,

I would love nothing more then to see the feds make it big. But at this time they are a local band, they play shows all around but still. They play Andys and clubs up and down Elm street and small bars all the time. They record in Krum for god sakes. And them leading (as of 4/5 @ 245am) by well over 500 votes shows there just that good. And if they wernt local then i dont think they would be on this local band list and im sure Texasgigs.com would know if they wernt local. But yeah, there good enough to go global and soon i think they will.

PPT, Honchie, and MFFL are on the right track. If you've ever been to a Mavs game and see or hear what gets the crowd moving, you'd understand. Fav artist vs best song should be considered.

Hey, This is Bryan from The Feds. I want to say thanks to all of our fans who have voted for our song thus far. It means a lot to us, not only as a band, but as fans of the Mavericks. We also recognize that we are only one of 3 bands in this competition that did not submit a song that contains a rap vocal. So, if you are a fan of rap or hiphop, then you will probably like another song more than ours. I’ve listened to all the tunes and there are some really good hiphop tunes on here. But just because I like rock, doesn’t mean I think the hiphop songs suck. This competition has exposed thousands of new faces to the local talent we have here in Dallas and we will all benefit even if we don’t win. I’ve been to many Mavs games and the songs I hear to get the crowd going range from The Who (played during team introductions), AC/DC, and Guns & Roses to 50 Cent and OutKast. All of these songs motivate Mavs fans and we did our best with our music to do the same. We love the Mavs and want to see them take the title this year.

One things for sure: everyone involved will definitely get lots of exposure. If part of your comment was in reference to mine [Bryan from Feds], I don't think a song has to have a rap vocal to pump the fans; I'm all about the catchiness, and the music. Does it make me want to holla? Parodying the hook to Pour Some Suga on Me would have had an excellent effect.

Man I heard a band on hear that is the best and most slept on group. I heard them on 103.3 Mavs Talk radio and fell in love with their song! Not only does it make you dance and mention the Mavs over and over, but the beat is profesional and they really have true talent and they talk about key players like Dirk, Josh Joward, Harris, Avery Johnson and even Mark Cuban! Hands down this song is the most well written song on here and I've heard some garbage! The Feds song has nothing on this song at all! The problem is that the song is at the bottom of the artist and people tend to easily overlook it. South City should win this if the judges are looking for great playoff material that'll sound good at the games and even on tv! They've got my vote!! I hope to rock to this at the games! The Feds song sucks badly and not because it is rock...but because it doesn't mention any of the players. It sounds like a remake of a crappy AC/DC song. Not what the fans want. If they would have put more thought into the lyrics it might be okay. I think the winner should include all of the team members name in the song somewhere. I really like the Honchie and PPT songs. Hopefully the celeb judges will do what is right instead of listening to a bunch of people who don't even like the Mavericks. I have not missed a game this year and have been to about 7 games in the platinum seats. If this songs plays at the playoffs I will be really upset as will several other fans. Remember the culture of this NBA team is much more street and rap than rock.

I'm really quite appauled by the audacity of some of you people. Or perhaps its more the total and complete lack of class. Yes, this is an open forum in which people can discuss the songs that are up for the vote. And everyone is entitled to their opinion. HOWEVER - it sickens me to read over and over "The Feds suck". Have you no more intelligence to think of something perhaps more constructive and less destructive to say? Not to mention, if you dislike them so much, why do you keep talking about them, giving them more press? I am sorry that the boys have to read this type of thing. I can't imagine how they feel. Kudos to Bryan for speaking up in a calm and intelligent manner. My point is, how would you feel if everyone one in the community were allowed to comment on your job? Because that is just it - this is not a hobby for ANY of the people in the running. This is their profession. And whether you like their style or not, well, let your vote be your voice. And all the hooplah over Buzz Oven... its not like The Feds are only local band that has benefitted from the marketing. Countless others have been on the free CDs and in the shows. And quite frankly, it is marketed at a segment of the population with the most disposable income.... hmmm, which might actually be GOOD for Dallas music. ALL of Dallas music. Stand up, get out of your seat, and rise to your feet One more time, scream out loud, this is the place to be (hey hey hey) I'm on fire tonight, there's no way you can slow me down We're screaming LOUD and PROUD GET READY, SCREAM LOUD, GO MAVS GET READY, SCREAM NOW, GO MAVS Rise up, get on your feet, and rock to the beat One more time, scream out loud, this is the place to be (hey hey hey) I'm on fire tonight, there's no way you can slow me down We're screaming LOUD and PROUD GET READY, SCREAM LOUD, GO MAVS GET READY, SCREAM NOW, GO MAVS

I'm no better music critic than anyone else on here, but if the goal was to motivate a crowd to get them "out of their seat" and "scream for the Mavs", then I think these guys did a pretty fine job of getting to the point.

It just sound like your orinary alt. rock song. The fact that they mentions mavs 4 times in the song is what makes it bad. I agree with Emerson1, the biggest failure on the Feds part was the lack of effort in the lyrics. We want to hear the players name and thier skills. I cant believe that people vote for the other crap you hear! Do they really listen to each song before they vote? It clearly shows they dont! Even Taylor and Choppy from 103.3 Mavs Talk show endorsed these guys on the show after the game Friday night because he even said it was the best one! South City is a good song (PPT and Honchie are both better - universally, overall, and marketwise); I think any true Mav's fan would listen to all of the songs no matter where it's located on the page. The inherent problem with this competition that you simply cannot get around is each artists group of fans are going to vote for their fav artist no matter how relevant the song is to the competiton or how it sounds. @musicman : it aint just about makin a crunk-azz durty song to jam to. this is also for the general Mavs-fan public. Which means gettin them ol white ladies jumpin up and down. Puttin in the same kinda crunk-type stuff that you hear on 104 is just as likely to scare the people who aint into that, to be honest with you. I do like the song, that's not in question here at all. You need to look at how and where the song is to be utilized, and then ask yourself is not a certain level of universality and cheeziness necessary to reach the broadest audeience?

I didn't see anything about it being this years specific playoff song, just playoff song. We're really splitting hairs here over if the Feds were following the rules or not and if they deserve to be in the competition and I think it's kinda silly. Some people could say that PPT is getting extra boost from 106, the Observer, getting their video on the front page of texasgigs, Quick magazine linking people to the site via 2-3 of the bands in the competition (not the feds), myspace and dfwhiphop. I don't see what's wrong with that., but people are complaining about the feds using myspace and the fact that they've been on Buzzoven (to which I still haven't found any link to them helping support the feds in this competition). I know, some of my friends are buzzers and they didn't know there was a competition. So, theories aside, I think it's unfair to assume that The Feds are in the lead because of some conspiracy. I'd like to see what kind of junk people would drudge up on any other band that was in the lead by that kind of margin...

seriously people, if you dont like the feds song, then quit your whining and do something about it. rally your own group of people to do mass voting each day. for any song you or they like. go to anywhere you can think of and vote from as many different ip addresses as possible in a day. i dont know why this had to become a feds bashing area. if you dont like the song, do something. even if the feds do hold the majority of fan vote, as it has already been explained, it is really up to the judges who hold what, almost 13% of a vote each? so even a person who has...6% of the fan vote, and they get four out of 5 judges to vote for them, that puts them at roughly 58% of the vote. so its still anyone's ballgame. just quit with the whiny bullsh about the feds. they are great in their element, and great at promoting and doing their thing. no need to bash a hardworking band, or a song that they worked on, just because you feel it doesnt fit.

If they were winning because the song was actually good I wouldn't care. Like I and other have said before, they put NO thought into the lyrics, they have a total of 5 lines in their entire song that just repeat over and over. People would actually get tired of hearing it after a few times, because once you only hear 5 different lines of lyrics.

And I really don't think anyone except the 1 foul mouthed person thinks they don't deserve to be in the competition. Take one of the songs right now that hasn't hit 50 votes yet: If that song had over 3000 votes, that would definitely qualify for things that make you say hmmmm. (sorry if I offend any one). Even if they mentioned every single player in the history of the team people would be crying there eyes out because the Feds were so far ahead.

-------------------RESPONSE------------- The info about the Free drinks is on The Feds myspace page 1/2 way down (see blog above for the link from Emerson1 http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?... ) So, go and do some freakin research before you spout off crap about what you obviously do not know!

It is not important to mention EVERY Mavs player in the history, but at least have some lyrics that mention basketball, our awesome coach, AVERY, and some of our stars. More thought went into other/better songs (and yes I did listen to them all, more than once, thank you) such as those from PPT, Honchie, and South City.

I am not whining because The Feds are winning. I want to continue going to the games (at Platinum level) without getting a headache from some crappy song. I have listened to The Feds song a number of times and it only gets worse! I do not feel pumped up...I feel like leaving the room.

Mark Cubin, and the other celebrity judges have to realize that the other songs are better than The Feds!

Now I'm no homophobe, but a limp-wristed click is still a vote, and once they get a few fruity drinks in them, their power can be simply massive. Alright, you know what? I'm in The Feds, and I'm not really sure why I'm wasting my time looking at this stuff anymore, but to set the record straight, Nobody IN the Feds has any clue what the free drinks thing is about. I saw a comment on our myspace page that someone who is just a fan put there and it's a joke. We can't afford the price of gasoline these days, or our OWN drinks for that matter, so how would we get free drinks for everybody who voted? So don't call Twizzler out for not doing his/her research. Maybe they didn't, but it's the truth. As I've said before, this contest is getting a lot of exposure for everyone here, and I'm glad for that. IF we win, I'll be proud that they decided to use our song. If not, life goes on and I'm comfortable that whoever gets the nod deserves it. It's a good panel and who better to judge than Cuban? Anyway, thanks for all the comments (positive and negative...I guess) and remember that whoever deserves this is kinda in the eye of the beholder and really it comes down to the final judging. For everybody that doesn't like a song, there's probably just as many if not more that do like it (any of them). Ones idea of what you need to mention in a song is not everybody's opinion. When I heard all the songs for the first time, I was surprised at the quality and effort involved in all of them. 5 days is not a very good chunk of time to come up with something perfect, let alone produced well. So hats off to all the bands in the running. Good luck and congrats on pumping out new music in such a small window of time.....Oh, and go mavs. Isn't that the point of all of this anyway? Bryan

For the record, I think the PPT song KICKS ASS!! A little too much like Outkast, but for me that is a good thing. I'm digging a lot of the songs here. But, I will say this, barring The Feds farting into the mic while shouting, "GO MAVS!", they would have gotten my vote anyway! Loyalty like theirs to us fans should be repaid in kind. This is the problem........they love the Feds more than they love the Mavericks. The purpose of this competition is to have a song about the Mavericks and not the Feds promoting their band. This team song is national not just for a few local fans of the band. Think bigger than your own selfish agenda.

I am not promoting Honchie or PPT because I know these bands.....I just simply love the Mavs and think these songs are better. In fact, this is the first for me to learn of or hear these bands. It is cool for them to have a shot like this, but keep in mind the 1st priority is the MAVERICKS!!! and NOT band promotion.

If you truly like another song, such as PPT, then that is what you should vote for because that is what you know in your heart is a better 'basketball' song. It is not about being loyal to a local band, it is about being loyal to your Dallas Mavericks basketball team!!!!!!!!!!!

So, try not to take it so personal when I or someone else says your song sucks.....it does not fit. Think of more than yourself. This is about our team, our fans, and the playoffs.

Bryan, Your song is owning in this popular vote competition. Don't bother trying to convince these 2 or 3 haters that your intentions are good, because no matter what you say, they will find a rediculous way to repeat that you suck and don't deserve it.

If Mavs fans don't like your song, then they will vote for another. It is simple as that. But the fact of the matter is that they are voting for your song. These guys blame you because you actually have fans (how dare you?). Take the high road and leave all of this jibber-jabber to Mr. T (or is he dead?).

With one email to their fans, The Feds could send them all to this forum to start a shouting match with the haters, but that would only make this competition more depressing. Your song is good, you know it's good. Just let these guys bitch amongst themselves...

How is supporting the Mavericks (which is the paycheck you are getting for this gig) hating on your band (The Feds). I have no loyalty to any local bands...only the Mavericks.

I am not worried about your comments. I know that Mark Cuban will make the final decision and he will pick the song that best suits the team.

I would like to say congrats to all the bands in the running. This is a great chance to make it big for your band...but the winner should be the better song not the band with more fans.

This is not hating on the Feds....just a simple fact about our fans and team. Don't worry...I have started something to help the better song win....other than just complaining. I will update you on what time to watch.

Well, you could look at it like this: for a fan to literally walk to a dozen computers in a lab and submit a vote for the song, just goes to show a loyal fan which perhaps should count for more than a non-heartfelt vote cast by someone who was just, say, a fan of the DJ who suggested their listeners vote for some other band. Perhaps the grass-roots real vote is worth more than a radio dj's army of listeners' thoughtless votes.

That said, while The Feds are clearly talented and have a strong local fanbase, I suspect most of their votes are more similar to a popularity contest than any real interest in the Mavericks (from the voters) or impartial consideration of what might constitute a theme song, fight song, etc. Stairway to Heaven might be a great song, but it is hardly appropriate for even play between innings of a baseball game. The song that wins should be one that is fun, will put fans in the stands in a good, game-going mood, and can serve to genuinely charge the atmosphere. Lazer's track certainly has some if not all of those qualities. Honchie's entry is also great along these lines, if not too good.. so good that the irony of their pandering to the lowest common denominator with a tongue-in-cheek nod to Limp Bizkit et al.. I am torn between being saddenned that most won't see the humor and actually think "rad!" when they hear it or if I am in awe of Honchie's brilliance at pulling it off so successully.

Thanks, (and vote Lazer - as staffer Mike Orren said and condoned in an earlier post - early and often!)

Huh. Strange, but I don't remember all this spleen-venting when the Feds had a couple thousand votes at the start of the week and had easily doubled (and in some cases, tripled) up the closest competition.

I admit to Lazer bias. But the top four or five songs are great, and when you get right down to it, is this really going to be AS big a deal when the actual song gets chosen and we can all focus our attention on more important stuff, like beating the Spurs? Seriously, I hate the Spurs. I live near San Antonio and receive daily floggings about How Awesome the Spurs Are. Yeah, well, Brent Barry looks like a guitar teacher.

More importantly, how cool would it be to have a Mavs playoff song that -is performed by a band featuring two Euros in speedos, Lazer Crow and handler, and a bass player with a TV for a head? -references "Marquis-y lookin' all sleepy"? Because he DOES!

In closing, let's not forget what this contest is really about: love.

We will share more as we are able. NO ONE will be able to compromise the integrity of this competition.

Keep voting as you have been. Legitimate votes will continue to be counted.

Come one Nessy and Oakcliffsweaty, most computer labz is all on the same netwerkz so most of the votez wouldn't count as it is. Maybe they mean to go to computer labz and persuade patrons to vote for Lazër by playing the song for them demonstrating Lazër's pure talent. When all of Rhineland get together to vote for something as sexy as Lazër, it means a lot of votes.

To jacknasty: The reason that you "don't remember all this spleen-venting when the Feds had a couple thousand votes at the start of the week and had easily doubled (and in some cases, tripled) up the closest competition" is because PEOPLE KNOW THAT THE FEDS REALLY DO HAVE THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF FANS. So do some of these other songwriters, like PPT. BUT LAZER DOES NOT HAVE THOUSANDS OF FANS. You could not be MORE wrong when you say "how cool would it be to have a Mavs playoff song that is performed by a band featuring two Euros in speedos and a bass player with a TV for a head" (this is actually a revolting thought) and "let's not forget what this contest is really about: love" (THIS CONTEST IS ACTUALLY REALLY ABOUT WRITING A GOOD SONG).

Isn't Texasgigs supposed to be a site that promotes good music? If so, then let's promote good music and TALENT, not cheap novelty acts that can't sing, can't play instruments, and are apparently willing to do anything to get attention! I hope the Texasgigs staff get to the bottom of the funny business, and soon!

I dunno dude, it wouldn't really matter to me how sexy Lazër is (which, of course, they are) it's a fine song and really gets you pumped for a game of b-ball. The Feds' song (which I really don't care for because even though the jams may be good, at first, when the lyrics come in the song is unsalvageable. It really ruins the song) just doesn't have the right sound or mood for a basketball game.

Anyone want to explain to me why THE MAVS can't beat Golden State? We are 0-4 with them and their record is 31-47 with no hope for a playoff bid. We gotta bring it tonight against the Suns. GO MAVS!

Exactly right. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways. It WOULD be downright offensive to see the speedo-clad Lazer boys and their entourage perform their jejune antics at the hushed, solemn, cerebral affair that is a National Basketball Association playoff game.

We should totally pray together sometime!

Mike Orren, says:

Friends:

One of the core beliefs behind Pegasus News, and Texas Gigs, is transparency in everything we do. That's why we have open comments on everything on the site, and even when we moderate, we explain why. When we get something wrong, we admit it and change it, in as close to realtime as possible.

We expect the same from our community. It's a sort of a social contract. (I think that's what my sociology prof called it.)

So, we take real exception when someone does something deceptive that affects others in this community -- particularly in a case like this where local bands busted ass to create great Dallas Maverick theme songs.

It sucks. It's not fair to the bands, to our other users, to the Mavericks, or to their fans.

Fortunately, as much as we're idealists, we're paranoid idealists. Which means that we're ready for jackanapes like we saw today.

Here's what happened:

We (and you) noticed that one particular band -- Lazer -- was suddenly skyrocketing in the vote. We initially didn't think much of it, because they had an appearance on The Ticket yesterday, and we've seen several bands in this competition get a bump from a media mention.

However, as the votes piled up, we investigated further. In the midst of that investigation, our server briefly shut down because it was getting hammered from a specific provider and a specific range of IP addresses.

Digging into our log files, we found that there was only one provider that had unusual traffic to our site in the past 24 hours. 1,311 votes were cast from that provider's servers since late last night. Prior to last night, we had one visit from that provider this month.

And those 1,311 votes went to Lazer.

Effective now, we have reduced Lazer's vote total by 1,311. That reduction is reflected in the current totals on the vote page.

I'm not disclosing the name of the provider, because it is irrelevant. The offending votes came through a client's gateway, not the provider's, and it's not their fault or their job to prevent such things.

Also, let me be clear:

There is NO evidence that the members of Lazer were directly involved in this attempt to cheat the vote.

Absent such evidence, there will be no disqualification or punitive action other than this correction of the vote totals. We know the guys in Lazer, and I don't think that they would do something like this.

(Continued...)

...

When and if we determine beyond a shadow of doubt who did it, we will expose them and mock them roundly.

While we don't take this sort of hacking attempt lightly, let me also remind everyone that this is just a fun contest to give exposure to some local bands and drum up some additional excitement for the Mavs' upcoming playoff run.

There have been more TV and radio appearances for local bands in the past week than there usually are in a month. And all of the contest participants are going to have their music distributed on a CD to fans at the first two playoff games.

Unless I'm missing something, everybody wins here. So let's quit sniping at each other and instead, maybe celebrate the fact that we (and by we I mean this community, not our staff alone) have gotten some pretty good attention on local bands and Our Dallas Mavericks.

And don't try to cheat Us.

I don't know, I think Lazër is beyond well capable of keeping up with the excitement of the game, where a lot of the other songs don't really capture that vibe. I just think that would be pretty interesting and can't wait to see how this one turns out!

I've explained the IP voting issue, but we're still getting questions: http://www.texasgigs.com/news/2006/ap...

All this talk about Lazer being a joke band just makes me angry. These are not only good guys but great musicians. If you actually have ever listened to their CD or seen them live you would understand that. What they are doing with MFFL or any of their other songs is brilliant. To say that they are a joke band with no real fans is offensive to not only all the thousands of people out there who really do love Lazer, but also to the staff here at this awesome web site. This a real competition with really great bands and the people here at this web site (who I might add have help a lot of band get a lot of free publicity) felt Lazer's MFFL was good enough to be in this competition. And I might add Lazer have more vote than the other 17 band in the competition. Hammel and Briso I wish you the best of luck and I can wait to see you play live at AAC.

Who is this Mike Orren and why isn't he running for public office!!? What a diplomat! And, a stand-up guy to boot.

I admit I was poking fun about The Feds winning, and I was feeling a little at fault for instigating someone into such a rally of voes for Lazer. I was ready to take my responsibility and loss for what it was. In light of new information I say nothing. I hope whatever band and song wins is the one that rightfully should. I love The Feds and that's that. I like several of the other songs, but The Feds got my two votes per day, once at home and once at work.

Good luck to everyone and I hope that the band that does win is able to further this into something even bigger! What hype this has fostered!! How 'effing cool for anyone involved, be it a band or Texas Gigs!?

Finally, I have a new and definitive site for what's what and who's who in local music. Thanks Texas Gigs! I'll be seeing you.

This reminds me of NBA All-Star voting...folks voting for their favorite player and disregarding the fact that that player may not be a fit for the All-Star team in that year, then you have the coaches (who too are biased, but not SO much as the fans) who come in and add folks who were left off because of that bias who should have been much more highly regarded and voted for.

I hope to God the judges throw their weight around and get this right FOR THE MAVERICK'S TEAM, FANS, AND THIS PLAYOFF RUN! Because the fans of some of these groups are f-n it up! 'scuse muh french...

THis total unfair, but what amazing dexterity for a crow. Never thought any crow peck like that. I mean I seen chickens at the State Fair win my money in a game of inter-species tick-tack-toe but nothing like this. Lazer Crow is amazing... Troy is using is ingenious "Santa Tracker" Dopler technology to track Lazer Crow, I sure there will more news.

Mike Orren, says:

A couple of contestvotegate updates:

  • We have spoken with Hammel and Briso and are thoroughly satisfied that Lazer was not involved with the attempt at vote manipulation yesterday. Looks like a misguided fan.

  • As some folks have noted in emails to us, Lazer's vote has continued to surge. They continue to get publicity on The Ticket, and we have gotten several hundred referral hits from Bob and Dan's website, so everything looks kosher.

  • It has also been suggested that by laying out our means of catching yesterday's shenanigans that like some sort of cat-stroking maniacal supervillain I somehow laid out a blueprint for how to beat the system. I can assure you that even if someone foils our IP tracking, our trained monkeys and our sharks with laser (but not Lazer) beams, there is still one foolproof way for us to detect cheating. Bwa. Bwa ha. Bwa haa ha.

  • Don't forget: Voting closes at midnight. The final vote, including both celebrity and fan picks, will be announced Tuesday evening on Kiss-FM and shortly after that here on TexasGigs. We'll give more details and times as they are firmed up.

  • Just because the voting is over, don't abandon us! We still have the most complete interactive concert and movie listings in town; tons of local music to listen to, and the latest news on all your favorite bands. And, much like the TV networks killing time until the Superbowl kicks off, we're going to be running a "Road to the AAC" recap with profiles and information on the top votegetters over the next few days. Tasty stuff, so stick around.

Guten tag, and danke schön to kevin5776. He's right! We probably would have beaten Golden State AND Phoenix if we hadn't been so distracted by these flame wars. We didn't listen to a word coach Avery told us during half-time because we were all furiously voting online and arguing over who should win. Even though I love my Rhineland homeboys, I'm saying just vote for PPT because they don't spell out their own name in the first seconds of their song.

I guess not everyone watches UPN21 or the Mavericks games...otherwise Honchie would have gotten more votes from the t.v. spot I got for him.

Jim,

Don't give up on your band yet there is still celeb voting. It doesn't matter what the popular vote is going to be...it boils down to Mark Cuban. I had fun with this whole contest. The Lazer song is funny and good in it's own right and I am glad it is one of the songs in the running. I also like the PPT song except it will be kinda hard to hear the softer singer's lyrics at the games. I just like the Honchie song since it was kinda loud and in your face...it also mentions bringin home the hardware and the playoffs. I was just trying to get the Honchie song in the running for the celeb voting...which I did. Only the top four matters.

See you at the games....

Good luck to all bands still in the running! Just consider these lyrics from Honchie's song "Get up on your feet"!

Get up on your feet and let them know you're here MAVERICKS FANS, ITS OUR YEAR Cuz we're going all the way and we're bringin' home the hardware

Put your game face on, buckle up & hold tight cuz the Mavs are in the house and they're lookin' for a fight! Dirk is automatic, German money in the bank Howard's like Picasso, a force in the paint Terry's got manuevers that are gonna break your knees Don't need to check the weather cuz the Mavs are raining threes! Listen up fool when they take it to the glass Get Rowdy Loud and Proud, because the center kicks some....(%^$#)..BOOM!!!!!

MAVERICKS FANS, ITS OUR YEAR! Cuz we're goin' all the way and we're bringin' home the hardware

Its a bird, its a plane, its my main man Djop Like an ice cold 40, the man's got hops Van Horn's sizzling like a deep fryer Call 911 Stackhouse is on fire Don't forget about Johnson, the man behind the wheel You better give it up, cuz our coach got skills The Mavs got the hunger, and the bite, and the muscle Like a thousand pound pit bull without a muzzle

BOOM!

MAVERICS FANS, ITS OUR YEAR! Cuz we're goin' all the way and we're bringin' home the hardware MAVERICS FANS, ITS OUR YEAR! Get up on your feet and let them know you're here!
