Pherigo? Where Ya Been Honey?
So like Doug Burr sends out an email that he's performing at the Black Dog Tavern on Friday, April 21st. In good Doug Burr fashion, he promoted the other artists on the bill and included links. Thank you Doug Burr.
I have absolutely no idea how Greg Pherigo slipped under my radar. I seriously think I'm losing my touch. He recorded at Troubadour Studio with Steven Collins. Steve never mentioned him. He's performed with my Cowtown pal Chris Johnson. Chris never mentioned him. Freakin' Jason Manriguez is in the band. Jason never mentioned him. He performed with my darling Salim. Salim never mentioned him. How did I miss this kid?
Here's his story...
"Greg Pherigo began writing songs in earnest a few years ago as a reaction to the dispassionate and soulless sounds that seemed to be pushing down on us from all sides. He wanted to write songs like those he enjoyed listening to himself. So he withdrew to ponder and now, after several years of self-imposed exile in undisclosed locations, he has returned to Texas (and his cherished stomping grounds) with a head full of songs and determination. Whether it’s lamenting troubled love or dysfunctional society, Pherigo strives to write songs that are real and emotive. He has recently completed recording his first full length album “Pistols at Dawn.” “Pistols at Dawn” was recorded over several weekends at the sensational studio in McGregor, TX aptly named THE TROUBADOUR."
"Pherigo was joined by several musicians to accomplish the project. Those who contributed include Steven Collins of Deadman who owns and operates the studio. Steven lent his talents threefold, as engineer, producer, and musician. Steven appears on various instruments including electric guitar, piano, organ, mando-guitar, mountain dulcimer, harmonica, the drone and backing vocals. Pete Coatney (Jack Ingram, Deadman) was another vital piece of the puzzle as producer and percussionist. Helping out on Bass and Pump Organ was Jimmy Green, a long time collaborator with Pherigo in the song writing process. There were also a few special appearances by Sherilyn Collins of Deadman on keys and Andrew Wimmer on electric guitar. Last but no least, Jon Skaggs provided a solid drum track for “When I Go.” Joining Greg for live performances will be Jason Manriquez on Bass and Andrew Wimmer on electric guitar and keys."
I really dig this guy's music. His lyrics are interesting enough (to me) that I actually listened intently. You'll find him on stage at the Black Dog Tavern on Friday, April 21st with Doug Burr and Peter Schmidt - a fantabulous showcase to say the least.
