UnObserver concert review - Faster Pussycat @ The Granada
Some of us at the Un-Observer staff loves "glam metal" and always will, and have loved Faster Pussycat ever since they played at Dallas City Limits in ‘87.
Well let me start out by saying that the some of us at the Un-Observer staff loves "glam metal" and always will, and have loved Faster Pussycat ever since they played at Dallas City Limits in ‘87. For those of you way to young to know where DCL was - it was in the same Building that the Lodge is in now. It was the "Rock ‘n Roll Palace of Downtown Dallas." Anyway, Faster Pussycat was in Town tonight and played at the Granada Theater and it was great - not too many people but still a blast. Stephan Adler of GNR was supposed to be on the bill with his new band Adlers Appetite, but supposedly the "bus broke down" in Memphis, other rumors are that he is back on the smack and could not function as a human. Too bad, would have loved to see his new stuff. Also on the bill was Bang Tango but I guess they had the same fate as Adlers Appetite. So the Granada scrambled to get two openers from Dallas. The Staff was very dissapointent in there choice of bands - Advent and Poison Cherry. They could have, and should have, gotten the Valentine Failures and Secret Devil Sign (or even the Lash Outs would have been good) but they did not.

This staffer thought it was horrible and that they should have never been on the bill in the first place. Keep playing Curtain Club boys, the world needs more crappy sheep bands that will go nowhere.
Next up was Poision Cherry. They are an 80's glam metal tribute band . The idea was funny but the joke wore off after the first two songs. They really need to fire their sound guy because they sounded like crap, and maybe practice a little more before you play Karaoke to a large crowd guys. They did the gamut of hits from Bon Jovi, Poison, Twisted Sister, Van Halen, GNR, ETC. but to no avail. This staffer thought they sucked.
Well it looked pretty bleak for the night and this staffer almost went home before seeing Faster Pussycat because he was so disgusted with the two other acts on the bill that it almost ruined the night. But this staffer came to see Faster Pussycat, and so this staffer did just that. So Faster Pussycat hit stage and it was high energy balls to the wall glam rock at its finest. They played songs off their new album The Power and the Glory Hole with song titles such as "Number 1 with a Bullet," "Porn Star," "Shut up and Fuck," "The Power of The Glory Hole," "Sex Drugs & R & R," and then of course they played "Bathroom Wall" and "Babble On and On." Their guitar player Xristian Nordahl used four different guitars including a pink flying V, a Rev Horton Heat Gretch, and two Moserites Johhny Ramone guitars. Taime Downs vocal range stills holds water to any other glam bands’ of this year or yesteryear. I'm glad this staffer stuck around to see them, it was well worth sitting thru two crappy bands to see a great live performance by Faster Pussycat.
To all whom missed the show, sorry for you. You missed a good band that will be back soon. Hopefully, the Valentine Failures and maybe Secret Devil Sign will play with them next time round.
