New Irving water restrictions

0

The City of Irving has new, mandatory water restrictions that will go into effect December 2 and will continue indefinitely. No watering is allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. They do not apply to private wells or other non-potable water. Here they are:

* Landscape watering is allowed twice per week based on the last digit of service address. Even-numbered houses and businesses may water on Tuesdays and Saturdays; odd-numbered addresses may water on Wednesdays and Sundays. No watering is allowed on Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays, and no watering is allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

* Foundations and new plantings may only be watered using a hand-held garden hose, soaker hose, bucket or drip irrigation for up to two hours on the designated watering days.

* Washing of any motor vehicle, motorbike, boat or trailer is only permitted on the designated landscape water days and times using a hand-held bucket or a hand-held hose equipped with a positive shutoff nozzle for quick rinses.

*Draining of indoor or outdoor pools/Jacuzzi-type pools and refilling is prohibited. Only newly constructed pools and repaired pools can be filled.

* Operation of any ornamental fountain or pond is prohibited, except where necessary to support aquatic life or where such fountains are equipped with a recirculation system.

* Fire hydrant use is limited to firefighting-related activities to maintain water quality or for construction purposes by securing a special permit from Irving Water Utilities.

* Watering golf course greens and tee boxes are permitted, but irrigating the golf course fairways and other areas must comply with the twice-per-week watering schedule, unless using reclaimed water.

Prohibited uses of water:

1. Washing down hard-surfaced areas (sidewalks, parking lots, etc.).

2. Washing buildings or structures except for fire protection or in preparation for painting.

3. Use of water for dust control, except when affecting public health and safety.

4. Flushing gutters or permitting water to run or accumulate in street.

5. Failure to repair controllable leaks.

Residents who do not observe the watering restrictions are subject to fines of up to $2,000. Each day the plan is violated will be considered a separate offense. Call Water Utilities at (972) 721-2281 for more information or visit here for more info.
