The DMN raised a big stink the other day about the McKinney cheerleading report not being released to the public last week. Well, after the McKinney ISD talked about it for three hours on Saturday, they decided to release bits and pieces of the 70-page report on Monday.

What's this all about? It's about a giant mess involving cheerleaders at McKinney North High School and principal Linda Theret and her daughter and favoritism and the ex-cheerleading coach who quit and - ugh. Never mind.

Update: Here is the press release sent out from McKinney ISD:

On Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, the findings of the investigation conducted by Harry Jones, the independent investigator retained by the Board of Trustees, were presented in a 4 1/2 hour meeting of the Board. The investigation represents the culmination of many hours of investigation by Mr. Jones, including over 75 personal interviews and document review. The Board of Trustees believes the investigation presented a thorough and objective examination of the allegations.

At the meeting, the Board took no action on the investigation findings, leaving further action to the Superintendent. Based upon the findings of the investigation, Mr. Crowe, Superintendent, placed Ms. Linda Theret, McKinney North High School principal, and Mr. Richard Brunner, a McKinney North High School assistant principal on administrative leave with pay pending his final decisions and recommendations regarding the investigation findings.

“Based upon the findings of the investigation, I have no intentions of returning Ms. Linda Theret or Mr. Richard Brunner to McKinney North High School,” said Mr. Tom Crowe, McKinney ISD Superintendent of Schools. “The report reveals procedural and administrative concerns that require immediate intervention.”

Mr. Crowe determined this action was in the best interests of the District pursuant to Board of Trustees’ Policy. If further action requires Board action, Mr. Crowe will present recommendations to the Board. In addition, Mr. Crowe will be recommending administrative review of various procedures and practices utilized by the campuses with regard to all extracurricular activities. The Board and Mr. Crowe appreciate the cooperation of all individuals involved in the investigation. Mr. Crowe is satisfied that a complete review of this matter has been conducted.

Copies of the Investigation Report and Executive Summary of the investigation findings have been requested by the press. However, due to confidentiality provisions under the Public Information Act, the District believes it is obligated to request an Attorney General’s opinion regarding the release of these documents. If the employees referenced consent to disclosure, these documents will be released immediately to the public.

The District is hopeful that this matter is now resolved and that the results of the investigation and subsequent administrative actions will have a positive result for McKinney North High School and the District. The District expects to move beyond this matter to continue its mission to provide an excellent education, which challenges each student and employee to reach his or her highest potential, in a quality, safe environment.
