Sage is Closed and For Sale - On Craigslist
OAK LAWN Got this note from the ever-watchful Teresa Gubbins, indicating that Chris Svalesen is trying to sell Sage, which closed a couple of weeks ago:
I suppose you could debate whether or not the corner of inwood & cedar springs is a "desirable location". but not up for debate is that the prospect of a 4-star chef putting his shut-down restaurant up for sale on craigslist seems pretty classic-dallas-tragic:
Here's the ad from Craigslist:

charming 2200 sq ft restaurant, no triple net, includes all kitchen, dining room and catering equiptment, new ansul system, new ac, ample parking, desirable location near oaklawn, highland park, turn key operation, $50,000.00, call 214-797-6110 for information
inwood rd at cedar springs
The listing has been up since early November, but we haven't seen any mention of this until Teresa caught it today. I emailed Chris for confirmation, but since the phone number on the listing goes to what sounds like co-owner Brad Bandfield's voicemail, I'm thinking the ad is most likely legit.

What is the deal with Chris Svalesen? He is quickly gaining on, or even surpassed, Avner Samuel as the area's most peripatetic and flaky chef. I really wanted to eat at Sage, but never got the chance. I guess the lesson to be learned is that you need to eat at Svalesen's restaurants really quickly because they come and go in the blink of an eye.

Finally, a practical application for all those hours studying ancient philosophy. "Peripatetic" is not a word often found in the news.

Bummer! I only got to eat at Sage once, but really enjoyed it. I guess I should know better than to eat at any of Svalesen's places early in their lifespan... you get addicted, and then "Voila!" they're gone. The location was a bit out of keeping with the dining concept, I'm afraid. Any bets yet on where Svalesen will pop up next? I'd bet on a hotel restaurant (Mandarin Oriental could be a candidate).

Further use of the word "peripatetic" may coincidentally be found here: http://overthetop.beloblog.com/archiv...
It's funny how that happened.
