McKinney schools recognized for excellence by Texas Monthly

0

Texas Monthly magazine recently included 10 McKinney ISD elementary and middle schools in a list of the “Best Public Schools in Texas”. The district had seven elementary schools top the list and three middle schools honored as top performing public schools in the state.

Valley Creek Elementary School ranked among the top five highest performing elementary schools in the State of Texas, based upon consistent high performance in all subjects measured.

Other elementary schools making the list were McNeil Elementary School, Eddins Elementary School, Wolford Elementary School, Reuben Johnson Elementary School, Walker Elementary School and Glen Oaks Elementary School.

Faubion Middle School, Scott Johnson Middle School and Dowell Middle School were named as three of the top middle schools in the State of Texas.

The rankings of the best elementary, middle and high schools published by Texas Monthly magazine are based upon data compiled by the National Center for Educational Accountability (NCEA), which is a research division of the University of Texas in Austin. The organization, formerly known as Just for the Kids, analyzes how students perform in measurable curricular and instructional areas including reading, writing, math, science and social studies.

A school must have three years of data to be eligible to be considered by the NCEA. McKinney ISD has four schools that weren't eligible for consideration, McKinney Boyd High School, Evans Middle School, Minshew Elementary School and Wilmeth Elementary School.

Half of all McKinney ISD schools eligible for consideration were ranked by the NCEA.

“Having ten of our schools listed among the best public schools in Texas is truly a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved - campus administrators, teachers, students and parents,” said Tom Crowe, McKinney ISD Superintendent of Schools. “When one takes out the four campuses that do not qualify, due to not having three years of data, then fully 50 percent of the MISD campuses are listed among the ‘Best Public Schools in Texas’. We are very proud of all of our campuses and congratulations are due to these ten for their recognition.”
