Copper Canyon physician’s assistant nominated for fire commissioner
Kim Cumings will parlay former job skills into new position.
Raised in Copper Canyon, Kim Cumings has been nominated for the town's Fire Commissioner position. Along with her mother, Virginia, Kim currently lives with her husband Paul Cumings in a new home on Chinn Chapel Road.
According to LantanaLinks.com:
For twelve years Kim was in the Air Force Reserves serving in the dental and the pharmacy units. She returned to the DFW area and went through 27 months of intensive training at UT Southwestern to become a Physician’s Assistant. For the past six years she has been a PA midlevel to a general practice physician. The last two years she has assisted Dr. Bryan Minton, M.D. in his Lewisville office.
Kim said that the “Physician’s Assistant” concept began 31 years ago with the seasoned medics returning from the Viet Nam War. These men and women were highly experienced in medical procedures, but did not have the level of training of a medical doctor. The PA certified program was a way to utilize their medical knowledge in a very practical way and a very cost-effective way for a patient.
