Bank One Center building in Dallas sells for $216 million
I find this amusing, only because if I sold something for $216 million, I could write a 75-page essay on what I'd do with the money, how cool it was to have something worth $216 million, etc. - not a two-sentence press release. This is just one man's opinion.
Crescent Real Estate Equities Company (NYSE:CEI) today announced the sale of Bank One Center, a 1.5 million square-foot Class A office property located in downtown Dallas. The property, of which Crescent owned a 50 percent interest, was sold for $216 million, or $141 per square foot.
Dallas Business Journal says the buyer is private. Shhhh. Don't talk to him.
But what did he buy?
SHUSH! SHTDHLUPRTNW ("shut the hell up right now" with gritted teeth.)
What is the Bank One Center? It is this, according to glasssteelandstone.com:
At 787 feet, this building already impressively punctuates the Dallas skyline. In fact, it's the third tallest building in the city. But the impression it gives is of an even greater height through a modern interpretation of the classic barrel vault. Beyond that, it uses a traditional three-sectioned skyscraper form with upper level setbacks rounded and molded to match the vaults and give the building an overall art nouveau style. The setbacks carve a cross shape from the building's top section, but sheets of glass descending like a waterfall from the vaults continue the illusion to street level.

Brad Williamson, says:
Blair, I think I know who the buyer is...
I was at the Cattleman's Club last night, enjoying a bourbon and branch, and overheard Dallas oil tycoon JR Ewing discussing plans to sell his East Asia oil rigs so he could afford to purchase this building as the new location for Ewing Oil.

Later that night, I spotted a depressed Cliff Barnes stumbling into Club DMX with Mr. Ewing's wife Sue Ellen. I can only assume that he was upset with the news of JR purchasing yet ANOTHER piece of the Dallas pie.

Speaking of this joint, here's a linky to a couple of images of an Oct '87 DMN newspaper insert. . . just for kicks.
