Parents say Grapevine needs school zone on Pool Road
City officials disagree
It's a classic catch 22: parents won't allow their kids to walk along Pool Road and State 26 to reach Cross Timbers Middle School; and, since no children are walking along the route, Grapevine city officials say there's no need for a school zone.
Meantime, parents are forced to load kids into the SUV and drive them safely onto school grounds, adding to the commuter traffic already clogging the intersection. Oh, and incidentally burning fossil fuel (ever a burning issue).
A nearby CVS pharmacy parking lot currently serves as a turnaround for drivers unable to turn left out of the school across heavy traffic.
Parents of the two schools affected by the problem (Cross Timbers Middle and Glenhope Elementary) have requested meetings with Grapevine and Colleyville city officials to put forth their concerns. They worry that an unfortunate injury will occur before any action is taken.
I'm thinking this might be a great location for a new Starbucks franchise.
