Plano West cross-country team competes in snowy Washington State
Hilly course and cold, muddy conditions make for valuable experience, says coach.
Competing in the Cross-Country National Championships last Saturday, the Plano West team, led by head coach Richard Grubbs, faced some unusual challenges at Plantes Ferry Park in Spokane, WA. Namely, snow on the ground (three to four inches of the white stuff, in the process of melting into the muddy ground) and hilly terrain the likes of which they don't typically encounter on their home turf.
Both the boys and girls teams finished in the top 10 out of 48 teams nationwide, with several outstanding individual performances turned in by team members (including top team individual finishers Michael Richards and Katie Bassett).
