SMU swimmers start strong at Oklahoma meet
Both the men and women's swimming and diving teams jumped out to a great start in the first session of the 15th annual Kerr McGee Elite Meet. Tonight's session featured the 200 medley relay, 100 free and 800 free relay in which the Mustangs swept both relays.
The women's 200 medley relay team started the meet off on the right foot as they took first place by nearly a whole second. Leane Darling, Jenny Basel, Devon Callaghan and Jennifer Blackman clocked in at 1:46.58.
The men's 200 medley relay finished in the same fashion notching a first-place finish, three seconds faster than the second team. Ian Clark, Grega Plevelj, Justin Smith and Shane Milu touched the wall for a time of 1:31.62. A second Mustang team of Colton Ingraham, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Denham and Maverick Smalley combined for time of 1:34.97 and third place.
Katie Roberts set the pace the 1000 free touching the wall in fifth place with a time of 10:00.78 while Federica Felloni clocked in at 10:17.82 for eighth place. Jaime Williamson timed her 1000 free at 10:42.09, coming in 18th place.
Chris Ginder led the way for the men's team in the 100 free as he clocked in at 9:39.87 in 12th place. Michael Dmitriev touched the wall for 23rd place with a time of 9:55.00.
Clocking in seven seconds faster than any other relay team, Celina Lemmen, J. Blackman, Roberts and Tiffany Sammis combined for a first-place time of 7:25.29 in the 800 free relay.
In the men's 800 free relay, Smalley, Smith, Nate Clark and Milu kept the Mustangs winning ways as they clocked in as the fastest relay team. The relay touched the wall seven seconds faster than the second-place team with a time of 6:43.21. Ingraham, Travis Callaghan, Denham and Jerr Merritt posted a time of 7:03.61 for sixth-place.
The teams will jump back in the waters tomorrow morning with a session of prelims and then will compete in finals tomorrow evening.

Being a Dallas Mustangs swim coach and having so many ties with the SMU Swimming and Diving programs (not to leave out that I am an alumni) I think it is AWESOME that you guys are covering these stories! Please keep it up and make sure that T.O., Romo and the Cowboys don't get all the attention! CG
