Do Dallas Muslim leaders want sharia to be the law of the land?
Interesting read from the blog of DMN editorialist Rod Dreher. The paper's editorial board invited members of the local Muslim community for a discussion, because they had complaints about DMN coverage, writes Dreher. Look for more in Dreher's blog in the near future, he said he recorded the meeting. An excerpt from his post today:
Trying to get at the heart of the matter, I asked if they thought sharia should be the law of the land in our secular pluralistic democracy. Another round of long-winded answers, amounting to, "It would never happen here." That's not what I'm asking, I said; should it happen here. Someone explained that Muslim community would never be big enough in this country to make that happen. Which is, of course, entirely beside the point, but we moved on. I had my answer.

I've heard Rod in person talk a couple of times on this subject, and he is extremely knowledgeable. If you ever have the chance, I highly recommend listening to Rod speak on this issue.
BTW, Rod moved to Dallas after 9/11. He had been living in the shadow (literally) of the World Trade Center, and the events of that day shook him up so much that he decided to leave town. NY's loss is our gain - Rod is a big asset to the local journalistic community. I just wish the Morning News would untether him.
