Lewisville makes plans for new jail

A new jail will be built at the corner of Valley Parkway and Main Street, and the existing jail will be renovated for other police-related uses.

The City of Lewisville has chosen Burns & Gill Architects, Inc. of Fort Worth to spearhead the city's $3.1 million-dollar jail reconstruction project. A new jail will be built at the corner of Valley Parkway and Main Street, and the existing jail will be renovated for other police-related uses.

Not to be left out, Lewisville inmates will select and apply the new jail's paint job. Consensus has been stifled, however, after a shank-wielding riot broke out between those who prefer Honey Beige and those who prefer Cornflower Cream.

“We are expecting to select a construction manager to help us begin construction in early 2007,” Assistant Police Chief Russ Kerbow said. “We will go from being able to house approximately 16 people now to over 70 with the new facility.”

The new building will resemble the new Lewisville Library’s exterior to balance the look of the Lewisville Municipal Complex. In 2003, Lewisville voters approved the project as part of a $68.7 million bond package.
