Plano Senior HS athletes suspended for MySpace incident

Seniors Brandon Shaw and Colin Hatzmann were kicked out of the Plano Senior High School athletic program earlier this week after it was discovered that the boys had set up a MySpace account in the name of David Allen, Plano's head baseball coach. Its been reported that players went to the page to leave comments about Allen, his wife, and even his kid.

The Plano Star Courier has published pieces of a letter written by Coach Allen in response to the MySpace profile:

Allen said, “Brandon’s involvement as well as comments on myspace.com is a violation of our Student Code of Conduct and as a student involved in extra curricular activities, they are held to a higher standard.”

The boys say that it was a joke, and are trying to appeal the decision to remove them from athletics.

I received a very nice email from the mother of Colin Hatzmann in an effort to set the record straight on this article. Here is what Ms. Hatzmann had to say:

"Alan,

I feel like I need to contact you re your article about Plano Senior High School baseball players getting kicked off the team.I'm Colin's mother, one of the boys who got kicked off. The information you have is not right. Colin and Brandon Shaw did not create the myspace in Coach David Allen's name, someone else did who was kicked off the team also. Brandon did appeal but Colin has no plans on appealing.Also Colin had made a comment about the coach but he never made a comment about his family.I'm not trying to minimize what Colin did, just trying to get the facts right. Thanks."
