Oi oi no: The Redblood Club closes its doors
Punk is dead in Dallas, TX.
Well it truly is an end of era. The famous Redblood Club, the only DIY, all age, BYOB punk club left in Texas, was forced to close its doors this week. It truly is a sad day for punks and the many bands in the area that relied on this club for gigs. It goes down in history with many clubs in the area in the Deep Disneyland Ellum district that has fallen to dance clubs, gansta-type thug clubs.
Many clubs in the area have fought the changes to try and keep the area underground and part of the scene, but to no avail. Clubs such as the Twillite Room, the Theater Gallery, Prophet Bar, Main Bar, Orbit room, Trees, Spider Babies, and now even Club Clearview, will all be missed. I'm not sure where you kids will hang out anymore or if any other punk clubs will open up, but hopefully they will. If you would have supported it while it was around, it would still be around, that is my theory on this subject. Anyway my rant is done and I'm sure there will be another underground punk scene somewhere, just not in Dallas.
I would like to take this time to thank everyone who did support the RBC while it was open, and a special thanks to Mike Whittington, the owner of the club, for doing his best to keep all of you kids safe and to provide entertainment to you. I would also like to thank all of the bands that supported the club and Jay at NBS Entertainment, the Un-Observer, Mia Locket and Damage Case, Ann, and anyone else that put up shows at the RBC. Thank you for supporting the scene and for supporting true underground punk.
