The First Lady of Nerdcore dropped by the Pegasus News offices to formally introduce us to a new music genre that is beginning to gain popularity across the United States. Kristen "MC Router" Ritchie is making a national name for herself in the nerdcore scene. For those of you who are new to this genre, nerdcore is the integration of rap and hip-hop beats with lyrics about video gaming, computers, other sorts of technology, and pretty much any other topic that you won't find in the mainstream rap market.
MC Router has had a lot going on in the last year, including a number of local shows, some positive reviews, new songs, and a rather heated feud with Wired magazine. The new year has even more in store, including a new CD and even bigger shows. Some of the things we talked about in this interview:
- What is nerdcore?
- Who is the typical nerdcore fan?
- What it was that drew her to this genre.
- So Wired magazine, eh... what the hell is up with that?
- Breaking from 1337 G33K B3AT
- New albums and upcoming shows
- PC or Mac, yo!
- Nerd faves
MC Router also gave us a taste of her sound, rapping out the first verse of her single, "Bill Gates Revolution."
