Danville Chadbourne's Recent Works are on display at the Irving Arts Center. The exhibition consists of a series of sculptures made mostly out of earthen ware and then painted with acrylics. The clay medium gives the sculptures a primal feel, and the simple forms and bright colors are fun yet mysterious. Some of the forms were somewhat suggestive of certain (ahem) body parts, but it wasn't obvious. Well, not too obvious. If there is one thing the art world doesn't need it's another male artist obsessed with the phallus.
I was a little perplexed by the titles of his works. I always look to the title of an artwork for a little more information about the piece, but his piece title's were so abstract they were lost on me. I understand what he's trying to do, namely connect a sense of spirituality with his work and I can respect that. I will have to say, however, that because of this I thought about his work a little more, I will remember his work, and I will probably even think about it for a day or so.
