Kennemer Middle School unleashes ‘T-RECS’
Earlier this month, Kennemer Middle School students began their participation in the new middle school T-REC Intramural Sports and Character Training Program.
This after-school program, made possible at all middle school campuses by a DISD Education Foundation grant, is designed to increase student TAKS scores and classroom performance by emphasizing moral, academic, and physical involvement.
The first meeting focused on the meaning of respect, and how it relates to self, others, and society. Students discussed what respect means to them based on their personal experiences, and participated in a Build ‘Em Up activity which encouraged them to take a negative scenario and switch it around to a positive situation.
The T-REC grant was a collaborative effort by teachers Reginald Johnson and Kendrick McCollums at Kennemer, Karen Cothran and Marq Lipsey at Reed, and Olish Allen and Maurice Horton at Byrd.
