Exxon Mobil sues Alaska over contested oil leases

Email Print Tell us your story Comments (2)

Irving-based Exxon Mobil is mad at Alaska and they're taking the whole freakin' state to court. (Er, the part of the state that made them mad.) The lawsuit is after an undetermined amount of compensatory damages, plus an injunction against the state to stop the termination of oil field leases the company has held for 41 years.

Several days ago, a U.S. Appeals court took off $2 billion in punitive damages owed by the company, regarding the Valdez accident in Alaska in 1989.
