Hurst-Euless-Bedford district’s ‘Robin Hood’ payments decrease
In May, school districts that pay into the state's Robin Hood funding program were under the impression that new legislation would radically reduce or nullify their payments.
Instead, payments have gotten smaller, but not by as much as the schools might have hoped.
Though the other districts (including Carroll, Grapevine-Colleyville, and Northwest ISDs) decreased only slightly, Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD's payments have decreased from $1.7 million for 2005-06 to $368,000 for 2006-07.
If for any reason you haven't heard of Robin Hood yet, the thought process behind it is that 'property-wealthy' districts should help educate students in 'property-poor districts' by reallocating funding. Obviously, the reference is to Robin Hood's famous campaign to take money from the rich and give it to the poor.
Other Tarrant County districts that pay into the system include Carroll, Grapevine-Colleyville, and Northwest.
