Get out and see a show!

Brunswick Smokin' Inferno
Brunswick Smokin' Inferno

I think it was Sunday night when I got a phone call from a friend an hour away in Sherman, Texas. He called to say one thing: 'I'm bored." Yes, there's TV to watch and movie theaters to attend, and hey, we could go bowling - Do ya wanna go bowling? But these are the typical forms of entertainment available daily, any time and any where, from here to Honolulu.

I said, "All right, let's see if there's any shows going on tonight in Deep Ellum or Lower Greenville." There was a band playing at The Cavern that we had never heard of before. We looked them up online, listened to their MP3 and decided for only a $6 cover charge it was well worth the trip.

At the most, there were probably only 60 people in the audience the whole night. It was intimate to say the least, but it was obvious that the word didn't get out. The bands were called Get Him Eat Him and Man Factory. After listening to the opening set alone, my friend and I looked at each other and smiled. This was a really great show and tons of people were missing out.

It's a rather common thing really, great music performed in front of small audiences. All bands start out like this though, but there's a chance that you could have been there before they made it big. In the local clubs and bars, this is where the foundations for tomorrow's music are being laid. Its not the mainstream bands, but the new, indie, local bands that are paving the way for where music is going.

The moral of the story is this: Don't get bored, check out the TexasGigs events page and see what shows might interest you!
