House of Blues Bought
According to the New York Times
"Live Nation, the nation's biggest concert promoter, said Wednesday it had reached a deal to buy the No. 3 promoter, HOB Entertainment, the operator of the House of Blues clubs, for $350 million, in a further concentration of the live-music business."
HOB controls Dallas' Smirnoff Music Centre and is planning to open a House of Blues club in the White Swan Building early next year.
The second-largest promoter, AEG, controls Nokia Theatre at Grand Prairie.
General analysis is that this consolidation is a good move for these big companies, but bad for musicians and fans, as it puts too much control of artist fees and ticket prices in too few hands.
