More than a dozen local DFW bands will be playing a tribute to the legendary Dallas punk rock band Loco Gringos tonight at the Bar of Soap. While they have not played in more than 15 years (guitarist and lead vocalist Pepe Lopez, aka Tom Foote, died in 1990), the Gringos were a huge influence on the local music scene, known for bringing the party with them everywhere they went in their famously-decorated hearse or the old Mexican Flag Bus. They called the Gringo Manor their home and a Flaming Burro lit up the stage wherever they played. Many bands, like the Reverend Horton Heat, have made successful covers of old Gringos songs ("Nuture My Pig") and regularly dedicate songs to the loving memories of Loco Gringo's shows. The bands playing tribute tonight range from rockabilly to punk to jazz to rock, emphasizing the far reaching influence this band had over DFW musicians.

pugeez, says:
The first time I stayed out all night was for a Loco Gringos show at the Arcadia ca. 1988. I went to their after party in some house off of Greenville and drank jug wine (from the jug) with a good friend you died too young. Thanks for the growing ups.
