Email Print Tell us your story Comments (7)

Dallas will be home to a new House of Blues. The Dallas Morning News has reported that the developer Hillwood Capitol has inked a deal with House of Blues to allow the venue to open in the historic White Swan building on North Lamar Street.

The venue is expected to be open for business by late this year or early next year.

There was a plan for Plano HOB a couple years after that, but I can't find a link.

I've had the chance to catch shows at a few of the different House of Blues around the country. In terms of audience experience, the sound in all their clubs are amazing. I hope that there are plans to have a room for smaller shows at this location in addition to the big room for national acts.

Deep Ellum should expect to suffer even more as a result of this. What do you guys think???

PUNCHbrad:

I certainly don't see it helping. Here's the thing that stands out to me: Look at the schedules for the HOB venues around the country: http://hob.com/venues/

Looks like a lot of overlap with the sort of acts that play the Gypsy Tea Room.

Even if there is some overlap between HOB's schedule and GTR's schedule, I have trouble believing that it will ever be a major factor in Deep Ellum's suffering.

Does anyone believe that had The Granada not opened, Trees would be thriving right now? I feel like the problems of Deep Ellum are not correlated to what is happening in venues throughout the rest of the city, but rather more about what is happening in Deep Ellum itself (a.k.a. parking issues and crime issues).

I say keep building quality venues all over the city. If they are successful, it will be positive for music (whether or not it is positive for Deep Ellum).
