Bumped into Eleven Hundred Springs interim bass player Rocky Garza after their show at the Granada Friday night, and he said Steve Berg will be playing with the band next month.
The big day is expected to be April 6 at Rockin Rodeo in Denton. Berg won’t be rockin’ too much (he’s still on crutches) and will have to use a chair. Only a few weeks ago, band members said they weren’t sure how long Berg would be out of commission, following a nasty motorcycle accident this past January.
“I’ll believe it when I see it,” pedal steel man Aaron Wynne joked Friday night.
Lead singer Matt Hilyer said the band wants to see if Berg can handle three shows before deciding anything else: Denton, one in Houston the next night and then the Strawberry Festival in Poteet the day after that. Garza will be on standby in case Berg can't handle much touring.
Eleven Hundred Springs has held a series of benefits for Berg's medical bills the past few months, including this doozie in February. They will hold another one this Sunday at Lee Harvey’s.

Yeah, man - when we were at the benefit at W.W. Fairfields and talking to the band it sounded like Berg would be in a body cast for the next 3 years. (I'm exaggerating.) But I don't think anyone would have thought he'd be back on a stage by April.
