Mini Concert Review: Keith Anderson and Bobby Sparks @ Brooklyn - 3/30/06
When Keith Anderson and Bobby Sparks get together, they dont just put on a concert - they throw a party.
Saxophonist Keith Anderson and organist Bobby Sparks hit the Brooklyn Jazz Cafe stage Thursday night and tore the roof off the joint. Joined by former Miles Davis sideman Bernard Wright on the keyboard and drummer Jason Thomas, the band started the concert by showing off their jazz chops on pieces such as the John Coltrane composition "Mr. PC".

After working the crowd into a frenzy, the group got ultra-funky when they laid into a brand new tune that will appear on Keith's upcoming album. Feeling the energy that these four musicians created during this tune reminded me of their performances as part of Roy Hargrove's RH Factor. Throughout the show Keith was absolutely screaming on the horn and Bobby had the crowd standing up and dancing during his high-energy solos. By the time they finished their first set, it was clear that when Keith Anderson and Bobby Sparks get together, they don't just put on a concert - they throw a party.
