Reports Radio & Records: "Expected staff cuts related to Cumulus Media Partners' purchase of Susquehanna began yesterday in Dallas, as Sr. VP/GM, Group Operations Dan Halyburton exited after seven years in the role. KPLX (The Wolf) VP/GM Lon Bason and several staffers in accounting, traffic and other administrative departments also left the company. Current Susquehanna/Dallas VP/Market Manager Dan Bennett is staying in a similar role for Cumulus.

"In other KPLX news, morning man Bobby Mitchell and nighttime air personality Hollywood Henderson have exited the station. Mitchell had been with The Wolf since its 1998 launch. Henderson joined the station in 2001."

The Star-Telegram also reports on the rumor mill affecting 93.3 FM (The Bone) and 99.5 FM (The Wolf), The Ticket (1310 AM) and KLIF (570 AM).

Maybe The Wolf will start airing ambient noise, making it far superior to "New Country."

I'd love to see a blowtorch like KPLX sink their teeth into the Texas scene. But they won't...it's surely too edgy for genteel Atlantans.

Just FYI on this new behemoth, the deal is officially done. From a release:

"Cumulus Media Partners, a private partnership created by Cumulus Media Inc. (NASDAQ: CMLS) Bain Capital, The Blackstone Group and Thomas H. Lee Partners, announced the successful completion of the acquisition of the radio broadcasting business of Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff Company. The deal, valued at approximately $1.2 billion was completed on May 5, 2006....

"...Cumulus Media Partners will own and operate 33 radio stations in 8 markets including: San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Kansas City and York, PA. Cumulus Media Inc., is the second-largest radio company in the United States based on station count. Giving effect to the completion of this acquisition, Cumulus Media Inc., directly or indirectly through its investment in Cumulus Media Partners, will own or operate 345 radio stations in 67 U.S. media markets. Headquarters for both companies are in Atlanta, Georgia."
