Sup at Good Records

Good Records is chock full of creamy musical goodness. First let's chat about upcoming in-stores, shall we?

INSTORE PERFORMANCES

***********************************************

Tuesday, May 9th - Jason Lytle and Aaron Burtch of Grandaddy - Not - to - be - missed!

"May 9, 2006 marks the final release from Grandaddy. "Just Like The Fambly Cat" combines the best elements from their 3 previous full length albums "Under The Western Freeway," "The Sophtware Slump," and "Sumday." After 14 plus years they have decided to call it a day under this moniker and incarnation. Jason is doing a few instore performances around the country and we are lucky to be hosting one of them. (The day of the album's release date no less.) This one is going to be extra special as our good friend Aaron from Grandaddy will be accompanying him on drums. The festivities will be kicking off at 7pm with BBQ, beer, and a musical history of Grandaddy supplied by DeeJay CeePee. Jason and Aaron should take the astroturf at around 9pm. Come out and celebrate this special evening with us and honor one of our favorite bands."

Saturday, May 13th - Gustafer Yellowgold

"If you saw The Polyphonic Spree's 6th Annual Holiday Extravaganza then you more than likely were blown away by this wonderful performer. Morgan Taylor aka portrays Gustafer Yellowgold, a gold creature that is part feline and part alien who is from the sun, in song and animated visuals projected onto a screen to help tell his tale. Due to overwhelming local demand Morgan is bringing Gustafer back for an all ages afternoon instore at Good Records as well as a night time all ages performance at the Gypsy Tea Room later that night. Bring the kids for a fun time under our blue roof. Cookies will be served."

Thursday, May 18th - Colour Revolt

"The band formerly known as Fletcher has cast aside its original nametag, taking its new handle from Edwin Abbotts 19th century social commentary Flatland, an exploration of life in two dimensions. But Colour Revolt is far from two-dimensional, eschewing Fletchers familiar sonic assault of unorthodox song structures and time signatures for a more melancholic though equally guitar-driven aesthetic of the post-grunge Southern gothic. "

Thursday, May 18th - Crushed Stars

"Crushed Stars formed as the indie rock counterpart to Todd Gautreau's electronic project called Sonogram. Occasional musical guests who sit in with Todd include Joe Schwartzott, Todd Gunter, Kevin Dotolo and Justin Evans. Several of their songs were featured on MTV's The Diary of Angelina Jolie & Dr. Jeffrey Sachs in Africa special that aired in 2005. Dallas based Crushed Stars will perform in celebration of the release of their 2nd full length, "Obsolescence," out on Arena Rock Records.

Friday, May 26th - Giant Drag

"Giant Drag, on tour with Pretty Girls Make Graves, will stop by to perform before their set later that night at the Gypsy Ballroom. The duo's washed out guitars and drums bring apt comparisons to Mazzy Star, My Bloody Valentine, and The Pixies. Their debut full length "Hearts & Unicorns" is out now on Wichita Records."

4 PM - Free - More Info

***********************************************

Wednesday, May 31st - Picastro

"The band who is on tour with Casey Dienel will be performing songs from their latest album on Polyvinyl Records "Metal Cares."

***********************************************

Wednesday, May 31st - Casey Dienel

"Singer-songwriter and pianist, Casey Dienel plays an intricate and melodic mixture of jazz, rock and the American songbook. The 20-year-old has been playing since she was four. She will grace the Good Records stage with songs from her "Wind-up Canary" album."

Cindy Chaffin says:

IndieK - I couldn't agree more - in fact, I was thinking Cavern vs Good Records and thought I could run between the both - but then I came back to earth and remembered the Granada was a little more far away than a run back and forth...sigh.

Grandaddy doesn't even start performing until 9 PM!!! Waaaaaaaah...

Joel says:

i'll be at grandaddy's swan song. it will be sad, hearing these new songs for the first time for the last time. they've been a favorite of mine for a few years now, and they will be missed.
