Lakewood People reports on the success of the tree house exhibit at the Dallas Arboretum:

One of the tree houses on display, “Square of Circles,” received special recognition from the Texas Architects Association during judging for the organization’s Studio Award. Jay Smith, the architect who designed the tree house, recently placed the piece on eBay to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

“The designers were responsible for building and taking down the treehouses, and I didn’t want it to go to waste,” Smith said. “I dedicated it to my mom, who’s been undergoing cancer treatments for two years.”

Since the exhibit opened during summer, the treehouses have helped attract larger crowds to the Arboretum than during comparable months last year, according to Monica Contreras, the Arboretum’s director of marketing. She said attendance is up 35 percent this year over the same period last year.
